Technician - Preventive Maintenance (2:00pm-10:30pm)

Position Summary???

Performs preventive maintenance on various types of HVAC equipment within Anne Arundel County Public Schools' facilities. Based on the needs of Operations, the work hours for this position can be either first shift or second shift. Must be flexible to work all shifts as needed. The position is considered essential personnel for emergency situations, including inclement weather conditions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Performs preventive maintenance and diagnoses equipment for repair or replacement. Examples include but are not limited to air handling units, roof top units, exhaust fans, cooling towers, periodic changing of filters, and changing belts.

2. Tests and calibrates equipment and systems.

3. Verifies that HVAC equipment and mechanical systems are operational according to design.

4. Interprets instructions, drawings, and O/M specifications.

5. Requisitions tools, parts, equipment and/or supplies.

6. Maintains clear and complete records of completed work.? May be required to complete records and/or reports electronically.

7. Advises Lead Preventative Maintenance Technician of difficulties on assignment and mechanical failures.

8. Performs any/all duties and responsibilities normally assigned to Roving Chief Custodians and/or Facilities and Complex Engineers.?

9. Ensures work areas are clean and equipment is in normal operation mode.

10. Participates in snow removal.

11. Responds to emergencies as directed.

12. Performs other duties as required.

Education ? High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate.

? Five (5) years mechanical equipment service or operator experience in a commercial, industrial, or educational environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.?
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

? Demonstrated mechanical/electrical aptitude.

? Ability to work from verbal or written instructions including simple floor plans and mechanical drawings.

? Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

? Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.

? Ability to employ business technology tools as required of all AACPS employees, e.g. E-mail, obtaining relevant AACPS employee information through the AACPS Intranet, employing the electronic benefits enrollment tool and any other electronic tools implemented in the future.

? Ability to work overtime, mid-shift, night work, and extensive hours during summer and other peak periods.

? Must provide own hand tools.

? Satisfactory score on any test required.

? Successful completion of the AACPS Introduction to School Facilities Leadership & Boiler Plant Safety/Procedures course or its equivalent. Consideration will be given to candidates who achieve a passing grade on the ?Introduction to Operations Equipment and Plant Procedures? course test.? In lieu of completing the course above and/or passing the course test, possession of a 4th Grade Stationary Engineer?s Certification issued by the State of Maryland is sufficient. Hold or be eligible for any type and level of licensure as designated at any time by the State of Maryland to operate the installed equipment in assigned area.

? Successful completion of a Leadership Training or Certificate Course through AACPS or equivalent outside course.? If otherwise qualified but without prior Leadership Training as indicated above, the selected candidate is required to successfully complete the first available AACPS Leadership Training/Certificate Course after appointment.?

? Possess a valid Maryland Driver?s License plus proof of a good driving record.

Physical Requirements?

? Requires ability to stand and to perform extensive walking.?

? Requires ability to kneel, stoop, squat, bend, push, pull, reach, grasp, balance, climb, carry, and lift of up to 50 pounds independently.?

? Requires ability to exercise a high degree of manual dexterity and work at a height of 25 ? 30 feet on a ladder, platform, or lift for extended periods of time.

? Requires ability to exert required force and coordination to twist/turn equipment/tools and materials required to perform required tasks. ? Work involves exposure to dust, dirt, noise, some chemical solutions/solvents/odors, and adverse weather conditions.?

? The employee is required to use safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents. Adheres to safe practices and methods in the operation of equipment and supplies related to his/her particular job.?

? The employee is responsible for correcting and/or reporting any conditions within an AACPS building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, students, or staff members assigned to the building.?

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
